A strategic plan to guide the future
The key deliverable for the Disaster Preparedness Project was a strategic plan. The Eden & Surrounds Disaster Preparedness, Recovery and Resilience Strategic Plan was published in July 2023.
From January 2023, in the final six months of the project, the project team began to capture community engagement, program and working group findings and to compile a draft strategic plan.
The draft plan included the identified community priorities, identified gaps, recommendations, ongoing responsibilities and the rationale for the approach taken in the plan.
Preparing for a community-led future
This activity occurred alongside initiatives designed to kick- start a community-led disaster preparedness future, including the Project Lab, Prepared for Disaster Radio program on community radio 2SEA, Prepare Our People Community Fun Day and Tales as Old as Time. Throughout the project, the community had clearly expressed a need to be empowered to lead its own grassroots initiatives for addressing three identified priorities - information & education, communication and community connectedness. |

It included three recommendations which were eventually adopted by the board in June 2023:
