Prepared for Disaster Radio programCommunity priority addressed: Information and education
Community radio is a free community resource just begging to be harnessed to support the building of community strength and resilience. At the start of 2023 the project team launched a fortnightly, information-based radio program hosted on Eden's community radio station 2SEA. The program was designed as a pilot for a sustained community-led program with the aim of educating and informing others about disaster preparation and creating another channel for building community connectedness. It was also an opportunity to build a relationship with 2SEA with a view to creating an enduring community communication partnership with the Eden Community Access Centre. |

The value of radio
Building a regular, reliable rhythm around sustained programing using the unique value of conversational, story-telling radio is a powerful way to inspire and create a sense of shared trust and reassurance.
Listeners are able to learn from others' stories, be encouraged to plan and act and build relationships that transfer to the real world and community through putting voices to names.
The first six months of the Prepared for Disaster program supported the final six months of the funded Disaster Preparedness Project including sharing the progress being made via initiatives such as the Project Lab.
Episodes included conversations with locals on the topics of emergency response, community building and the Project Lab.
